What is UV and UV-C?
Ultraviolet (UV) light is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum that falls in the region between visible light and X-Rays. Within this spectrum there are three core types of UV light which serve different purposes depending on their wavelength. The most common source of UV light is the Sun, however due to distance and other factors only UV-A and UV-B light is able to reach Earth. Yet, UV-C light, which has been scientifically proven to be extremely effective in disinfection and sanitation also falls into this electromagnetic spectrum and is the type of light we use in our products.
How does UV-C Disinfection Work?
Ultraviolet light is categorized as UV-C when its wavelength falls between 200nm and 280nm. According to numerous research studies and reports, when biological organisms such as viruses are exposed to deep UV light in the range of 200 nm to 280 nm it is absorbed by DNA, RNA, and proteins. This absorption process by proteins can potentially lead the fracture of cell walls and destruction of the organism. However, if DNA or RNA absorbed this UV-C light it is known to cause the inactivation of the DNA or RNA rendering the organism unable to replicate and thereby destroying its ability to spread.
Can Inactive Cells Infect?
No, once the UV-C light is absorbed by the microorganism the cell cannot reproduce and therefore cannot infect. It is also widely accepted that killing the organism is not needed, but rather applying the correct dosage and intensity of UV-C light to inactive the pathogen to ensure the organism can no longer reproduce.
Founded in 2020 after the covid-19 (corona) pandemic, portableUVC.com was set up to bring popular, customer-favorite and highly-rated portable ultraviolet-C light emitting diodes (UVC-LEDs) to the market for personal home, outdoors and office use. As such, the website is a retail marketplace, wholesale trader and information-source of these germicidal lights and related products.
